‘REDS10 a brilliant social enterprise’

During the launch of ‘The Condition of Britain’ report, Jon Cruddas MP, cited REDS10 as brilliant example of how social enterprises can unleash people’s potential and inspire community innovation.

Speaking at the Institute for Public Policy Research, on the 14 February, Cruddas outlined how the new project will identify major pressures facing the British public, as well as seek to find innovative solutions to the UK’s social problems.

Dave Dawes, Programme Director of Nurse First and serial social entrepreneur, believes this is detrimental to the sector and that social entrepreneurs need to share their experiences of failure, in order to prevent social enterprises and charities repeating each other’s mistakes.

Social Value Act comes into force

The Public Services (Social Value) Act comes into force today (Thursday 31 January), which is great news for the third sector as it increases the possibility of more charities and social enterprises delivering public services.

The new law requires all public service commissioning to factor in social value, with all public bodies in England and Wales including local authorities now required to consider how the services they commission can improve the social, economic and environmental well-being of their area.
